Unfortunately, a few weeks ago when I pulled my Kindle 3 Keyboard from a laptop bag  I couldn’t turn display on. I noticed some strange lines at the bottom of the screen. Those displays really ARE  fragile!

In this situation, you can sell the device on your favorite auction site as damaged (they pay pretty good!) or replace the screen yourself.

I choose second option, but firstly I had chat with Amazon support and told them about my problem. They were very nice and although I ran out of warranty they offered a 30 bucks discount on the new Kindle, OK! 😀

I ordered a new screen on aliexpress.com for $ 40 and after a few weeks (free shipping) it came in a box full of bubble wrap.

To remove the cover, I used a flat screwdriver to gently levered plastic clips around (I recommend to start from the top, do not lever scroll buttons!).

Then gently detached ribbon display (red box) and then unscrewed the screws (green: silver screws, blue: small black screws). After disconnecting the battery I gently levered the place marked with a yellow arrow and put forward plate in this direction.

The screen is slightly glued to the cover. Need to be carefully peeled off. Then I inserted a new display and made everything in reverse order.

Mission accomplished: Kindle rescued! ;]
